Link Insertions or Guest Posts: Which Fits an Online Store?

Link insertions suit stores that want to lift a specific collection or product page quickly, and guest posts suit stores that want to own a topic or tell a story. Many stores use both, with insertions for category pages and guest posts for brand and guide content.

What a link insertion is

A link insertion adds your link to an article that is already published, indexed and getting traffic. The link sits inside a sentence that fits the article, and it points to one of your pages.

The main advantage is that the page already exists in Google’s index and may already have visitors. The main drawback is that you do not control the rest of the article, so you have to judge the page as it stands.

What a guest post is

A guest post is a new article you write for another site. You choose the topic, the angle and where your link goes. It takes longer to arrange and produce, and a new page starts with no rankings and no traffic, so it needs time before it sends anyone to your store.

Which to choose for a given page

For a collection page competing on a commercial term such as “women’s trail running shoes”, insertions on running and outdoor articles that already rank are usually the faster route. For a brand story or a data study you want reported, a guest post or a pitched article makes more sense. If your aim is AI visibility for recommendation questions, a place in an existing roundup is generally worth more than either, because those are the pages being cited.

How to check a site before paying

Open the exact page, not only the homepage. Check that it is indexed by searching for its URL, that it ranks for something related, and that its outbound links go to ordinary sources instead of casino, loan or pharmacy sites. Treat third-party domain scores as rough estimates.

Paid placements should carry rel=”sponsored” or rel=”nofollow” under Google’s guidance. A link with the attribute can still send visitors and create a brand mention, so ask for the live URL and the attribute in writing before you approve a placement.
